All of our online workshops require the use of Google Meets or an equivalent program. The minimum requirements for running Google Meets can be found here. Most workshops will implement the use of traditional tools such as a pencil (2B) and paper (document-sized). If the workshop has unique requirements, a material list will be emailed out for reference prior to the start of the workshop. Notetaking materials are encouraged for all workshops.
Whether you teach elementary (3-8) or high school (9-12) we have a limited availability of free workshops for students to learn a bit about the skills and techniques used in the fields of animation, concept art and illustration. Background painters establish the color, style, and mood of a scene in animation. Learn some of the tricks with this fun workshop! Students will need to have access to a computer and will need to have the proper software downloaded (free softwares are available like Krita & Sketchbook).
Material & Software requirements for this workshop include: A computer capable of running a digital art software & a digital art software such as Photoshop CC, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Krita, or Sketchbook.
What makes a sketch successful? This workshop will break down the drawing process, and help students understand the basics of becoming a more effective artist using two key elements: structure and perspective.

Everyone loves designing their own characters! Students will have a great time learning tips and suggestions for illustrating their own successful character whether for comics, graphic novels or animation.

Whether you are illustrating comics, graphic novels, children’s books, or even science presentations – using visuals to effectively tell a story is a valuable tool. In this workshop, students will learn the tools and techniques used in comics and graphic novels for narrating their stories visually.

Whether you are creating for painting, illustration, comics, animation, photography, film or television, every discipline uses the same devices to have the image read the way the artist wants. This workshop has students create an image emphasizing an area of dominant focus.
Material & Software requirements for this workshop include: Pencils (any between 6B – 6H), paper/sketchbook, & notetaking materials. Markers and coloured pencils encouraged.
Each workshop takes place with our instructor on Google Meet, live in your classroom. There is also a 30 minute presentation about our college and a virtual tour of MTM, so altogether it takes about 1.50-2 hours (also depending on the class size and leaving time for Q&A as well).
During this workshop, students will learn how Concept Art works in the industry and how it contributes to a production in a team setting. Using a pre-existing fairy tale as a template, students will work in groups – conceptualizing and sketching out ideas to bring their imaginary worlds to life.

Speed comics is about making short comics with a full story quickly. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part in creating comics but with this activity it can give students the tools to make a short comic fast. In four panels students can make a comic with a beginning, middle and end. They will be given a time constraint to get them drawing without worrying about the little details. At the end of the workshop students will have a fun comic to show their friends and family.

Each workshop is one hour long in duration, and takes place on Google Meet, live in your classroom. We leave time for wrap up and Q&A as well, so the whole experience can last up to 90 minutes.

Designed for high school students grade 11 & 12, these workshops are focused on providing students with skills and techniques to help them with their Specialized High Skills Majors or equivalent. This workshop provides an overview of essential skills for Animation, a brief history on the subject and the various career paths that exist within this vast creative industry. Students looking to get the most out of this workshop will be encouraged to share their work towards the end of class and receive invaluable feedback on what aspects are important to keep in mind and practice.
Material & Software requirements for this workshop include: Traditional options – Pencils (any between 6B – HB), paper/sketchbook, eraser (vinyl), ruler (clear preferred but not required), coloured pencils (optional), Stop Motion Studio or a similar application for Pencil Tests. Digital options – Animation program such as Toonboom Harmony or Opentoonz & a computer capable of running that software. Students should be familiar with these programs if they will be utilizing them.
In this 3 hour workshop, students will be introduced to a variety of resources to help prepare them for any post secondary facilities they may pursue. Students are encouraged to bring any work they may wish to receive feedback on and will be given numerous exercises to understand the importance of life drawing, perspective and more.
Material & Software requirements for this workshop include: 3 – 5 pieces of artwork students are interested in receiving feedback on. These pieces should demonstrate variety as well as an understanding of foundational art skills.

In this 4 hour workshop, Maya Ivanova will introduce the basic concepts, tools, and techniques used in the industry of 2D digital painting and concept art today. This quick introduction into digital painting will cover the step process of developing a design, drawing a layout, painting an image, organizing a file, and how to prepare activities for teaching and classwork evaluation.
