Raised in Muskoka, Laura Faber wrote that the “wild always finds its sneaky way into the art I make” and works in a variety of mediums, including oil, watercolour, acrylic, ink, charcoal, Photoshop, as well as “whatever else I can get my hands on, including buttons, dirt and glass.”
Laura is a 2016 graduate of the Concept Art Diploma Program at Max the Mutt. She’s always loved art and knew it would be how she would spend her life, but, she writes, finding a place like Max the Mutt was serendipitous. She couldn’t believe the passion and support of her teachers and the feeling of being somewhere she belonged. She soaked up every minute covered in charcoal or oil paint and late nights creating new worlds. She only discovered a love for animatic style in her second last year and brought that into her final project, a story based off Irish folklore.
She was hired before graduating at Yowza! Animation as a Background Artist. She now works as a Concept Artist and Illustrator at Elliott Animation developing new shows where she primarily does world design and assembling pitch packages. She is also currently working on illustrating her second children’s book and is coming back to Max the Mutt in the new year to teach.
