AGES: 8 – 14. Beginners Welcome. MTM Student-led course. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate!
The Wonders of Character Design workshop will give you the tools that will help you create intriguing, evocative, and outstanding characters starting from inspiration and conception to the final painting. In these workshops, you will explore colour, shapes, styles, storytelling and the possible difficulties you may face in your creative journey. We will work one on one to give you the knowledge and understanding to better achieve the results you aim for in the world of design!
Firstly, we will start with the ideas and the stories. I will help you come up with 3 or 4 fun characters and their backstories, and together we will refine them. Style, inspiration and real-life references will be decided in this stage and you will carry them for the rest of the design process.
Secondly, we will explore different ways to just get these imaginative characters, inspiration and stories out of your head and onto a page. Then I will help you figure out which one you will take and push further.
Thirdly, we will figure out the specifics of the character. What they wear, the colour of their hair, their height, if they use a sword, if they have any pets, if they’re weak or strong etc… I will help you figure out what works and concentrate all the ideas your imagination throws out there.
Lastly, we will finish the characters in a pretty final render to bring the characters to life. I will help you learn about lighting, shading, colouring, highlights, textures and mood.
It can be a difficult process and even more difficult on your own but together we will get through it and push your skills further than you have before.
This Character Design workshop requires Internet Access and will take place via Google Meetings / Hangouts. Sessions will be recorded and shared with students. Students are free to work digitally or traditionally.
